A Peek into Our History

If the Old Florida charm and architecture of our hotel inspire you to delve a little bit deeper into the area’s history, you may consider taking a nature walk at the Sugar Mill Ruins, less than ten minutes from our New Smyrna Beach hotel. At the time of New Smyrna’s colonization in the 1700s, sugarcane production was one of the principal activities, along with hemp, indigo, and rum. The New Smyrna Sugar Mill, constructed in 1830, was abandoned and destroyed soon after in a series of battles with Seminole Indians. Today, the ruins stand as a remnant of the Floridian past. Visitors will find informational signs along the property as well as a few nature trails. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy your meal under the shade of the trees and the Spanish Moss. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
